Woodcut

Currently I am exploring a new printing technique: woodcut. I always have admired Edward Munch's woodcuts and finally I could test the same process which many painters as him, used.

In this techniques drawing is very important. We can say that he is a line based techniques. The starting point, in fact, is cutting the wood with scalpels of different sizes with which determine the thikness of the design. It will    the contrast of the design.

The print which comes as a result of a woodcut can be in black -and- white, if using the only cutted board, or in two or more colours, if using more then one board. By adding colours and consequenciely boards the process of using the press will also ...

Each board represents one layer.

I started with experimenting on design with two colours.

Because of this I worked with two same sized wood board, the first one as a monocoloured backround which will be the color of the ... in fact. I press it on a white sheet of paper and left it afterward drying for 24 hours.

By then, I have choosen the color for the other cutted board. It will be the color of the backround in the print.

At this point it is very important take care to the registration of this second board when placed on the dried print pressed before.
